Ok, so now that practicum is over I finally have a chance to stop procrastinating and sit down and blog it out.
I suppose the most prudent action would be to start from the end and work backwards...
The last week of practicum was amazing! What a great bunch of kids, I'm so thankful that I got the opportunity to interact with so many amazing people. I have to say I learned more in these last couple weeks that I have in a very long time... Living the life as it were.
It's funny I didn't really plan it this way but my last week happened to be the most relaxed week of the whole practicum. Despite the fact that I was teaching 95% of my AT's course load. I suppose all the work I put in during the prior 3 weeks really payed off. Although most of the last week was supervising and aiding students with in class assignments.
During the last week I also got to take part in a lot of fun activities, including going skating with my grade 5 class, which was a blast! I think that the other teachers at the school appreciated the fact that I could skate and was willing to go out, considering I was the only adult of the ice for most of the time out there. It's also a good feeling to help kids learn to skate again, which is something I haven't had the time to do in a number of years. It really took me back to my hockey coaching days, what fond memories.
Anyway I had a really great time and I'm going to miss my students greatly, my only hope is that I left as much of a lasting impression on them as they did on me.
Sounds like a good practicum Kevin. I found the last week to be the best as well- more time being active in class, but it ran smoother and was easier to get in the habit of things. It was nice to have the day for yourself, instead of just a few periods.
ReplyDeleteI'll see you tomorrow, back in class!
